[Review] IMS Competitor PTFE Coated Shower screen

This new filter is based on compertition model and just coated with PTFE.(Well known to us as Tefron, it’s product brand name of Dupont)

PTFE has high thermal resistance, and water repellency. So, PTFE coated shower shows impressive water distribution ability than other competitor showers. In actually, water-flow through PTFE shower has unique distribution characteristic like that comes from a bath shower-head. 

■ Design

In this post, e61 type PTFE shower screen is used. It has 60mm diameter, and well-fitted on e61 type mahchine like a speedster. Basically It’s specific attribute is indentical to IMS Competition model below.

There are many types of shower ; Include “60mm”, “57mm”, “56.5mm” and “51.5mm”. You can may use these shower on a lot of machine that share a same specs. Sadly, La Marzocco, synesso compatible shower isn’t available at this time.

■ Distribution ability and extraction

As you can see on attched video, PTFE coated shower show very even water distribution. Each water branch from hole isn’t influenced by neighbor water flow.

In extraction, this even distribution is very important factor. More even distribution means the puck saturation is getting uniform. As this positive ability, we infer that it’s phenomenon would lead to even extracion.  

I didn’t test enought, so it’s not to easy to make sure PTFE coated shower’s extraction ability. But, certainly it’s a impressive and reliable distributor.   

 

■ Maintenance

It’s very simple to clean-up PTFE screen. After using machine, just wipe few times to a shower with soft dishcloth. And attribute to coat material, inner side is also maintain cleanliness quite well with a little flushing routine.

It has a valid durability, but this shower is also a high-maintenance stuff. IMHO, it’s not recommended brushing with hard material. To get long-term use, treat to screen carefully. Too frequent separation to maintenace can cause losing a coat on it. 

■ Summary

It’s a best choice to someone who want even water distribution and easy clrean-up style shower.

Especially, PTFE coated shower screen show outstanding distribution ability. Even better than it’s brother product “IMS Competition” model. If you treat it and use carefully, it’ll be a one of the top notch coffee gadget.
